China launches 1500°C single-shaft heavy-duty gas turbine project in ChongqingOn November 28, 2025, Datang Chongqing Jiangjin Gas Turbine officially began full-capacity power generation, becoming China's first 1500°C class improved single-shaft heavy-duty gas turbine project. This development fills a critical gap in domestic "F-class" turbine technology and represents a major step forward in the country's energy independence.

The project is the first gas turbine investment by China Datang Group Co., Ltd. in Chongqing. It uses a gas-steam combined cycle system, which offers fast start and stop capability, flexible operation, and clean, efficient energy output. The successful launch enhances western Chongqing's electricity supply capacity and helps ease demand pressures during peak summer and winter seasons.

In October 2025, the turbine completed its first electricity billing settlement, entering a new stage of commercial operation. Public records show the project has a total investment of about ¥2.6 billion (approximately $360 million USD), covers 171 acres, and includes two "one-to-one" single-shaft gas-steam combined cycle generator sets, each rated at 546,800 kW. Together, they provide a total installed capacity of 1,093,600 kW.

The turbine is equipped with China's first single-shaft M701F5 heavy-duty gas turbine, featuring multiple technological innovations and patents. The project has secured 18 utility model patents and 6 invention patents. It also incorporates "digital-intelligent" construction, enabling APS one-click start/stop and auxiliary monitoring systems to further improve operational efficiency and safety.
