Foxconn chairman Liu Yangwei met with OpenAI's Sam Altman and plans to discuss collaboration with NVIDIA's Jensen Huang
Foxconn Chairman Liu Yang‑wei (Liu Yangwei) says he has already met with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and plans to hold talks this month with NVIDIA's Jensen Huang to explore cooperation. Liu sees the AI investment boom as having bubble risks, but insists AI is still in its early stages, with huge growth potential.According to Liu, Foxconn (also known as Hon Hai Precision) hosted a meeting with Sam Altman at its Taiwan headquarters to discuss possible future partnerships. He added that later in the month he intends to meet Jensen Huang of NVIDIA to explore collaborative opportunities.
After these announcements, Foxconn's stock price jumped 8% in Taipei, reaching 222.50 New Taiwan dollars (roughly equivalent to 51.8 Chinese yuan), bringing its year‑to‑date gain to 21%. The company has not formally disclosed any deals with OpenAI or others yet, but it has already begun pivoting toward high‑growth areas such as AI server manufacturing-producing devices for major U.S. tech firms like Amazon and NVIDIA.
In the second quarter, revenue in Foxconn's cloud and networking business-encompassing AI server products-surpassed earnings from its consumer electronics operations, becoming its fastest growing segment. The firm expects this AI server business to grow more than 170% in the current quarter.
