Dongfang Electric installs world's largest offshore wind turbine, setting global benchmarkDongfang Electric Group has successfully installed the world's most powerful offshore wind turbine-a 26-megawatt (MW) giant-at its testing and certification base in Dongying, Shandong Province, China. Completed in late August 2025, the project sets new global records for both single-unit capacity and rotor diameter, marking a major leap in offshore wind technology.

The turbine features a rotor diameter of 310 meters (1,017 feet) and blade lengths of 153 meters (502 feet). It stands nearly 200 meters (656 feet) tall and sweeps an area of 77,000 square meters (828,821 square feet)-larger than ten soccer fields. Designed for deep-water offshore conditions, the unit incorporates advanced anti-corrosion materials and typhoon-resistant engineering.

Built with over 30,000 components, the turbine uses a next-generation permanent-magnet direct-drive system and high-torque transmission architecture. These innovations allow it to capture more energy per rotation, significantly boosting power output and efficiency. The installation also demonstrates China's growing leadership in high-end equipment manufacturing and renewable energy deployment.

Dongfang Electric overcame major logistical and engineering challenges to complete the project, including transporting the world's heaviest turbine nacelle and coordinating blade installation in coastal conditions. The turbine is now undergoing performance testing and certification, with expectations to enter full commercial operation in the coming months.
