CATL launches world's first large‑scale humanoid robot battery production line
CATL has announced the opening of the world's first new energy power battery PACK production line operated by humanoid embodied intelligent robots. The line, located at CATL's Zhongzhou base, represents a milestone in intelligent manufacturing and automation.
The humanoid robot, nicknamed "Xiaomo," was developed by Qianxun Intelligent Robot Company, part of CATL's ecosystem. Xiaomo is equipped with CATL's self‑developed battery and an advanced end‑to‑end vision‑language‑action (VLA) model. This enables the robot to accurately perform complex tasks such as plugging in battery connectors, marking, and other precision operations.
CATL stated that Xiaomo's successful deployment marks a breakthrough in the application of embodied intelligence in industrial production. The company plans to use this achievement as a starting point to further enhance automation and intelligence levels across its PACK production lines.
The integration of humanoid robots into large‑scale battery manufacturing is expected to improve efficiency, reduce error rates, and set new standards for smart factories. It also highlights the growing role of AI‑driven robotics in China's advanced manufacturing sector.
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), founded in 2011 and headquartered in Ningde, Fujian Province, is the world's largest supplier of lithium‑ion batteries for electric vehicles. CATL partners with leading automakers including Tesla, BMW, and Volkswagen, and has consistently invested in next‑generation energy storage technologies. The company's expansion into humanoid robotics reflects its broader strategy of combining battery innovation with intelligent manufacturing to maintain global leadership in the EV supply chain.
