Haier wins top award with magnetically controlled full‑space preservation technology
Healthy eating has become increasingly important, and refrigerator freshness is now a key factor for consumers. Yet many products on the market still rely on traditional "low‑temperature" preservation, offering similar functions and parameters. This has led to homogenization in the industry, slowing innovation and diminishing user experience.
Haier has broken through this cycle with the world's first magnetically controlled full‑space preservation technology. This innovation earned Haier the highest award in China's disruptive technology competition, making it the only refrigerator brand to achieve this recognition.
Unlike conventional cooling that freezes food from the outside, Haier's technology penetrates deep into food cells, preventing damage from ice crystals. This preserves both nutrition and taste. Working with more than ten leading research institutions - including the Strong Magnetic Field Science Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Agricultural University - Haier overcame challenges such as magnetic field miniaturization, precise dynamic control, and ultra‑low temperature stability.
The results are striking: deep‑sea fish and shrimp can now be preserved for up to 60 days, with nutrient retention twice that of ordinary refrigerators. Frozen meat and fish no longer lose flavor or nutrition after just one or two weeks. Haier has already applied for 204 patents related to this technology, which has also won the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the Geneva Patent Gold Award.
Sales reflect consumer approval. The Mailang 9 series refrigerator, equipped with this technology, sold more than 100,000 units within two months of launch. Building on this success, Haier has integrated AI image recognition and intelligent sensing, creating an AI full‑space fresh‑keeping refrigerator. It automatically identifies stored ingredients and adjusts the environment for optimal preservation, saving energy and improving convenience.
This breakthrough redefines the standard of "freshness" in refrigerators. It shifts the industry focus from competing on parameters to competing on user experience, and from selling hardware to offering scenario‑based services.
