Guangzhan high‑speed railway opens: 401 km line cuts travel time to 1.5 hours
China Railway has announced that the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high‑speed railway will officially open on December 22. The line begins at Guangzhou Station and runs through Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Yunfu, Yangchun, Yangjiang, Yangxi, Maoming, and Zhanjiang before terminating at Zhanjiang North Station. The full route measures 401 km (≈249 miles) with a design speed of 350 km/h (≈217 mph).
Seven stations are opening in the first phase: Xinxing South, Yangchun East, Yangjiang North, Mata, Maoming South, Wuchuan, and Zhanjiang North. The line connects to Guangzhou Baiyun Station on one end and Zhanjiang North Station on the other. Additional connecting lines to Foshan Station, Fozhao Station, and Guangzhou Station are still under construction.
Once operations begin, travel time from Guangzhou Baiyun to Zhanjiang North will be as fast as 1 hour 32 minutes, and Guangzhou Baiyun to Maoming South can be reached in 1 hour 20 minutes. Compared with the previous fastest route via Jiangmen, the new line shortens Guangzhou-Zhanjiang travel time by 61 minutes.
With the opening of this line, Yangjiang, Maoming, and Zhanjiang officially enter the high‑speed‑rail era, accelerating their integration into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and strengthening regional economic connectivity.
