China completes successful 2‑ton eVTOL cargo test flight in Guizhou mountains
On November 20, 2025, China's domestically developed 2‑ton electric vertical take‑off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) completed a low‑altitude cross‑city cargo test flight in the mountainous Guizhou Plateau, marking a breakthrough in logistics applications for rugged terrain.
The aircraft carried emergency medicines and specialty agricultural products from Xiuwen County, Guiyang City, to Jiuzhou General Airport in Huangping County, covering 118 km (73 miles) in 40 minutes. The test validated the eVTOL's ability to provide point‑to‑point transport without a runway, while achieving zero carbon emissions throughout the process.
Compared with traditional methods, the eVTOL reduces transport time for agricultural goods and emergency supplies by more than 80 percent. Powered entirely by electricity, it operates with low noise and high environmental efficiency. Officials noted that the aircraft's design allows vertical take‑off and landing like a helicopter, but with cleaner energy and greater adaptability for short‑distance urban logistics and rescue missions.
Following the successful flight, plans are underway to establish regular logistics routes between Guiyang and Huangping within the year, creating a new model of three‑dimensional transportation in mountainous regions.
The aircraft was developed by Guiyang Low‑Altitude Industry Development Co., Ltd., a company focused on advancing China's low‑altitude economy. By integrating pure electric propulsion with vertical take‑off technology, the firm aims to expand applications in logistics, urban transport, and emergency rescue, particularly in areas where traditional infrastructure is limited.
