Chinese display panel makers surpass 50% global market
Chinese mainland display panel manufacturers captured a majority share of global panel revenue for the first time in the first half of 2025, as domestic companies continue to invest heavily in advanced semiconductor display technologies, including OLED and mini LED.According to data from CINNO Research, a flat panel display industry consultancy, global display panel revenue reached approximately $56.2 billion from January to June 2025, remaining roughly unchanged from the same period last year. Chinese mainland manufacturers generated $29.3 billion in revenue during that period, representing a 7 percent year-on-year increase and accounting for 52.1 percent of the global total.
In contrast, South Korean panel makers saw revenue decline by 9.5 percent, with their market share falling to 30 percent. Japanese manufacturers experienced a sharper drop, with revenue down 16.7 percent, reducing their global share to 3.5 percent. Display panel makers based in Taiwan reported a 4.4 percent year-on-year increase in revenue, raising their global market share to 13.2 percent, up 0.6 percentage points compared to the previous year.
In terms of operating profit, Samsung Display of South Korea retained the top global position, although its lead narrowed. Chinese mainland firms TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co. Ltd. and BOE Technology Group Co. Ltd. ranked second and third globally, respectively.
