China Mobile unveils 6G transmission prototype, commercialization expected by 2030
China Mobile has officially introduced its 6G Transmission Technology White Paper along with the 6G Transmission System Prototype 1.0, marking a significant step toward next-generation mobile communications.
The white paper outlines eight key technical directions, including ultra-wide optoelectronic interfaces, flexible time-slot granularity, intelligent sensing, ultra-low latency forwarding, distributed intelligent control, lossless and reliable transmission, global secure encryption, and advanced time-space synchronization. These areas are designed to provide systematic references for the industry as 6G development accelerates.
The Prototype 1.0 serves as the practical implementation of the white paper's concepts. It successfully verified three major capabilities: 1. Business-aware intelligent connectivity, which identifies traffic characteristics and dynamically adapts transmission strategies to avoid resource waste. 2. Distributed dynamic channel control, enabling agile transmission paths in highly dynamic scenarios and improving responsiveness. 3. Multi-dimensional cooperative transmission, which ensures efficient parallel data transfer across multiple service flows, meeting latency coordination requirements for diverse applications.
This release marks the transition of 6G transmission technology from theoretical research to system-level validation, laying the groundwork for future iterations and industrial collaboration.
According to industry expectations, research on 6G technical standards will be completed between 2025 and 2027, with the first version of specifications finalized by March 2029. Commercial deployment is projected around 2030, with performance expected to exceed 5G by more than tenfold.
China currently accounts for about 40.3% of global 6G patent applications, ranking first worldwide. This leadership highlights the country's strong position in shaping the future of mobile communications.
