Tongwei factory sets global benchmark in solar cell productionAccording to a report by CCTV Finance, China's Tongwei Group has established the world's first "lighthouse factory" dedicated to photovoltaic cell manufacturing, located in Meishan, Sichuan Province. This state-of-the-art facility produces one solar cell every 0.7 seconds, setting a new global standard for speed, automation, and intelligent energy production.

Since its launch in April 2020, the factory has rapidly scaled operations, becoming the first enterprise in Meishan to exceed ¥10 billion (approximately $1.4 billion USD) in output value. It now operates over 20 automated production lines, with daily output increasing from 4.41 million cells in 2024 to 4.95 million in 2025-a gain of 540,000 units per day.

The facility integrates hundreds of sensors across its equipment to monitor real-time metrics like "heartbeat" and "body temperature." These data streams feed into a centralized "AI brain" system that manages operations, predicts potential failures, and has helped reduce equipment malfunction rates by 50%.

Tongwei's vertically integrated approach spans the entire solar value chain-from upstream high-purity crystalline silicon production to midstream solar cells and modules, and downstream photovoltaic power plant construction and operation. This closed-loop system ensures efficiency, quality control, and proprietary innovation across all stages.
