China unveils CJ2000 engine for C929 wide-body aircraft with advanced performance and green technology
At the 2025 Nanchang Flight Conference and Aviation Industry Expo, China showcased its domestically developed CJ2000 turbofan engine, which will power the upcoming C929 long-range wide-body passenger aircraft. The CJ2000 features a large bypass ratio and a dual-rotor design, delivering a peak thrust of 35.2 tons (approximately 77,600 pounds). It improves fuel efficiency by 15% and reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by 30% compared to similar engines. The fan diameter measures 3 meters (9.8 feet), and the turbine inlet temperature reaches 1700°C (3092°F), with a fatigue life of 50,000 hours-40% above international standards.
The engine has passed a 3,000-hour endurance test and meets the performance benchmarks of leading global products. It also utilizes 3D printing in the combustion chamber to reduce part count by 40%. The CJ2000 was first publicly revealed at the 2022 Zhuhai Airshow and later displayed at the 2023 Shanghai International Commercial Aerospace Exhibition. The C929 aircraft itself is designed for low fuel consumption, low emissions, low noise, high reliability, and long service life, with reduced maintenance costs.
In addition to the CJ2000, China also introduced the KP12 turbojet engine, delivering 120 kg (265 lbs) of thrust. It has completed performance verification and is flight-ready, suitable for drones and light aircraft. The 3MW hybrid power system integrates turbine and electric technologies, offering high power-to-weight ratios and low fuel consumption. It supports applications in eVTOL aircraft, ships, and ground power generation. Supporting systems include 1MW, 240kW, and 165kW hybrid generators, each optimized for specific high-speed or vertical takeoff scenarios.
