NOCC Pacific becomes world's first car carrier to meet new EV safety standards
CIMC Group has officially named the "NOCC Pacific", a 7,000‑car LNG dual‑fuel vehicle carrier, at its Longkou base. Built for Norwegian Car Carriers (NOCC), this marks the first car carrier from CIMC Raffles designed to meet new international safety standards for electric vehicle transport.
The vessel measures 656 feet (199.9 m) in length, 125 feet (38 m) in width, with a draft of 28 feet (8.6 m). It has a design speed of 19 knots and can carry 7,000 vehicles. Equipped with two C‑type LNG storage tanks and dual‑fuel main and auxiliary engines, the ship can achieve zero emissions during port operations.
This is the 15th car carrier delivered by CIMC Raffles and the 7th completed at the Longkou base in 2025. The launch comes as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) prepares to enforce new safety standards for EV shipping starting January 2026. To comply, the NOCC Pacific proactively added the DNV "F (EV)" symbol, making it the first vessel worldwide certified under this new requirement.
The ship has also received the DNV "Ammonia Ready" symbol, preparing it for future use of lower‑carbon fuels. During construction, CIMC Raffles implemented a new method of shaping the priority deck section before closing the side section, reducing hull panel deformation by more than 15 percent, improving accuracy, and shortening the build cycle.
