Xiaomi reveals new smart home appliance factory with fully automated injection‑molding and sheet‑metal production
Xiaomi has officially announced that its third large‑scale smart factory, the Xiaomi Smart Home Appliance Factory, began full operation in October. This marks a major milestone for the company's home‑appliance division and completes Xiaomi's closed‑loop system spanning product design, R&D, and manufacturing.
As a next‑generation smart facility, the factory features extremely high levels of automation. Both the injection‑molding and sheet‑metal workshops now operate under 100 percent "black‑light production," meaning the entire workflow runs without human intervention. This not only boosts efficiency but also enables manufacturing tolerances as precise as ±0.05 mm (0.002 in) for certain components.
The plant also includes a 4.2‑kilometer (2.6‑mile) overhead conveyor system that links six major workshops, functioning like the factory's central artery. It enables fast, cross‑zone material transport and supports fully automated logistics throughout the facility.
On the ground level, 161 AMR autonomous mobile robots continuously navigate the factory floor. These robots can independently plan routes, avoid obstacles, and deliver key components with high accuracy. Xiaomi reports that intelligent logistics now cover 94 percent of the entire plant, significantly reducing losses associated with traditional manual transport.
Thanks to the coordinated automation system, the factory can produce one air conditioner every 6.5 seconds on average. Xiaomi has also implemented 100 percent AI‑powered visual inspection for critical components, including indoor and outdoor unit motherboards, injection‑molded parts, sheet‑metal parts, fan wheels, evaporators, and condensers. High‑resolution cameras paired with on‑device AI models ensure fast and accurate defect detection, helping maintain consistent product quality from the source.
