MetaX launches IPO to fund next-generation GPU development
On December 5, MetaX Integrated Circuits (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. officially opened online and offline subscriptions for its initial public offering on the Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Board. The company plans to issue 40.1 million shares, with 8.02 million allocated for strategic placement. The IPO is expected to raise ¥3.904 billion (about $550 million).
Funds will be directed toward three major projects: development and industrialization of high-performance general-purpose GPUs, artificial intelligence inference GPUs, and advanced GPU technologies for emerging applications.
MetaX was founded in 2020 by former senior GPU architects from AMD and Intel. More than 80 percent of its team has over a decade of chip design experience. The company is currently developing its flagship C700 GPU, which aims to deliver computing power, storage capacity, communication capabilities, and energy efficiency approaching the level of NVIDIA's H100 series.
MetaX's existing Xiyun series GPGPUs have already been deployed in China's National Supercomputing Center, major internet companies, and financial AI platforms. They are compatible with domestic AI frameworks such as Ascend and Cambrian, positioning MetaX as a core contributor to China's national AI computing infrastructure.
MetaX Integrated Circuits, founded in 2020 and headquartered in Shanghai, China, is a semiconductor company specializing in high-performance graphics processors. Its leadership team includes industry veterans from AMD and Intel, bringing deep expertise in GPU architecture and chip design. MetaX has quickly become a rising force in China's semiconductor industry, with products already deployed in supercomputing and AI platforms. The company's mission is to compete with global leaders like NVIDIA by advancing domestic GPU technology and supporting China's strategic push for independent computing power.
