BOE aims to beat Samsung to mass production of 8.6‑generation OLED panels by May 2026
BOE Technology Group is expected to take the lead in global OLED panel manufacturing with its upcoming 8.6‑generation (G8.6) production line. The company plans to begin mass production in May 2026 at its Chengdu High‑Tech Zone facility, ahead of Samsung Display's schedule, which is projected for late Q2 to Q3 of the same year.
Compared with the current mainstream 6‑generation lines, the G8.6 line uses larger glass substrates. This design significantly improves cutting efficiency and reduces unit production costs, making it particularly suitable for large‑sized OLED panels used in laptops and other IT devices. The first wave of production will focus on 14‑inch OLED panels for ASUS and Acer notebooks. BOE also intends to expand the line to manufacture smartphone panels, further broadening its business scope.
Global competitors such as LG Display are also investing in next‑generation OLED production, but BOE and Samsung Display are currently moving fastest. If BOE's timeline holds, it will secure a key advantage in the new round of competition for large‑format OLED panels.
