Xiaomi 17 Ultra launches with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Extreme Edition and major imaging upgradesAt the Xiaomi x Leica Imaging Strategic Cooperation Upgrade Event on December 25, Xiaomi officially unveiled its annual flagship camera phone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Positioned as the industry's first super‑flagship powered by Qualcomm's fifth‑generation Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition platform, the device pushes mobile imaging and on‑device AI performance to a new level.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Extreme Edition is built on a 3 nm process and integrates a custom third‑generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU, a redesigned Adreno GPU, and an enhanced Hexagon NPU. Compared with the previous generation, CPU single‑core performance increases by 20 percent, multi‑core by 17 percent, response speed by 32 percent, and overall energy efficiency by up to 35 percent.

The new Adreno GPU reaches clock speeds up to 1.2 GHz and introduces dedicated high‑speed Adreno memory for the first time, offering 18 MB of exclusive video memory. This design delivers up to 38 percent higher gaming performance while reducing power consumption by 10 percent, balancing graphics power with sustained battery life.

As Xiaomi's next‑generation "Night God," the 17 Ultra debuts a Leica 200‑megapixel optical zoom system and a Leica 1‑inch LOFIC main camera. The Snapdragon platform's 20‑bit triple‑ISP increases dynamic range fourfold, enabling richer detail, brighter highlights, and deeper shadows. Combined with the new Hexagon NPU, the device performs real‑time scene understanding and optimization, improving Leica color rendering and computational photography accuracy.

AI performance also sees a major leap. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Extreme Edition boosts overall AI capability by 37 percent and supports processing speeds up to 220 tokens per second. Generative AI is deeply integrated into system interactions and content creation, making photo and video workflows faster and more intuitive.

Connectivity receives a full upgrade as well. The platform integrates the Qualcomm X85 5G modem‑RF system and FastConnect 7900, delivering faster 5G speeds, wider coverage, and lower power consumption. Xiaomi says this ensures stable, high‑speed connections during gaming, livestreaming, and large file transfers.

Alongside the 17 Ultra, Xiaomi also introduced the Buds 6 semi‑in‑ear TWS earbuds, powered by the Snapdragon S3 audio platform. They support 24‑bit/48 kHz lossless audio, Bluetooth 5.4, aptX Lossless, adaptive ANC, multipoint connectivity, and intelligent features such as AI voice summarization and real‑time translation.

Xiaomi additionally launched the Xiaomi Watch 5, equipped with the Snapdragon W5 wearable platform. The watch debuts EMG muscle‑signal sensing and ECG monitoring, enhancing health tracking and overall smart‑watch performance.
