Tianma unveils world's first display panel with built-in NFC and air-gap sensing
On November 12, Tianma officially introduced the world's first display panel with integrated NFC functionality, combining visual output and near-field communication at the component level. This innovation allows users to interact with the screen while simultaneously performing NFC tasks, such as card swiping or device pairing.
The panel uses a time-sharing drive system that enables touch and NFC operations to run in parallel without interference. This multitasking capability supports seamless user experiences, especially in environments requiring fast and secure authentication.
One standout feature is its air-gap sensing capability, which allows NFC interactions at distances up to 3 cm (1.18 inches). Tianma describes this as "air response, light touch," enabling contactless activation without physically touching the screen.
The entire screen surface functions as an NFC sensing zone, breaking away from traditional designs that limit sensing to small areas. This approach supports ultra-high screen-to-body ratios and contributes to thinner, lighter device profiles.
The panel is designed for a wide range of applications, including access control systems, industrial handheld terminals, conference check-in devices, public transportation interfaces, and smart home environments.
