OmniVision unveils industry's first single‑chip LCOS microdisplay for smart glassesOmniVision Group has announced the release of the OP03021 LCOS panel, the industry's first ultra‑low‑power single‑chip silicon‑based liquid crystal microdisplay. The panel is designed specifically for next‑generation smart glasses, combining compact size with high resolution and energy efficiency.

The OP03021 features a 0.26‑inch optical size and delivers a resolution of 1632 x 1536 at 90Hz field‑sequence input. With 3.0‑micron pixels, the panel integrates control circuitry, frame buffer memory, and a MIPI receiver directly onto the silicon backplane. This integration reduces overall size while significantly lowering power consumption - two critical factors in smart glasses design.

OmniVision emphasizes that the new LCOS panel enables smart glasses to achieve higher resolution and a wider field of view while remaining lightweight and comfortable for all‑day wear. Industry experts note that the OP03021's combination of performance and efficiency makes it a core component for stylish, practical wearable devices.

The panel uses the MIPI‑C‑PHY1‑trio interface and comes in a small FPCA package. Samples are already available, with mass production scheduled for the first half of 2026.
