BYD builds 30‑square‑kilometer new energy auto city in Zhengzhou
Satellite imagery has revealed the scale of BYD's massive new energy automobile city in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The project, located in the Zhengzhou Airport Zone, covers nearly 30 square kilometers and has been completed in just about two years - a pace that industry observers are calling "Henan speed."
BYD first settled in the airport zone in September 2021. Construction began within 37 days and operations started after only 17 months. By 2023, the area had transformed into one of the largest new energy vehicle hubs in China.
The site includes the BYD Zhengzhou Circuit, one of the world's first all‑terrain professional racing tracks. It integrates asphalt tracks, wet skating tracks, off‑road mountain terrain, and slope sand courses. The facility serves both as a public experience venue and as a technical testing ground for BYD's automotive innovations.
Supporting infrastructure has also been built at scale. Zhengzhou International Dry Port now operates 300,000 square meters of warehousing and 500,000 square meters of professional stations, capable of storing up to 1 million vehicles and spare parts. The China‑Europe freight train connects directly to 140 cities across 40 countries in just 15 days, ensuring that "Made in Henan" products reach global markets efficiently.
In addition, specialized parts industrial parks - including collaborations with French firm Aden - add more than 2 million square meters of construction area, strengthening the ecosystem around BYD's operations.
